Is this a worthy upgrade to my current monitor? Did I upgrade or did I downgrade?

I currently use a S2340M as my main gaming display(well used to before It collapsed under its own weight (due to it's horrible stand) and fell off the my desk and broke) and a 20 inch 900p monitor to watch Netflix /do work or anything else while gaming. I paid $70 for the S2340M and I just bought a ST2421L for $50 to replace it. I know it has more ports and is 1 inch larger, but was it worth it? Was this an upgrade or downgrade? I mean I know the ST2421L has better specs and it costs more than S2340M, but how does this translate in the real world? Should I just have bought another S2340M for $70?

It'll be subjective. Only you will know once you use it. Stats that the manufacturers advise are often wrong and exaggerated anyway. An example being 'contrast ratio' which used to be claimed to be 1000:1, but then once manufacturer said theirs was 10000:1, then another one claimed 1000000:1, and I believe there are now manufacturers stating they offer 10million:1.
