CPU Has Started Spiking!

No idea why, but over the past couple months, the most simple things like opening up a few additional tabs in chrome, or trying to run multiple programs simulatenously have created major spikes in CPU.

Here is a screenshot as to the type of stuff I'm running and what's eating up RAM and CPU.

I'm beginning to think I may be having a hardware failure somewhere.

I'm running i3 CPU 550 @ 3.20 GHz, 8.0GB Ram. I have an SSD for the OS and most programs which is probably at 50% utilization.

Most of the time, when I open any program, the mouse begins to lag, the computer slows down and then a few seconds later (in what used to be almost instnatly) the program opens up.

It's at the point where a standard youtube video can't play clearly because it staggers with a CPU spike.

Sorry to bump, just curious if there were any suggestions on things to try to resolve this issue!
