seriously though, should i? i was reading up on it and it seems like it's very different from all of the other OSs. i've used big picture mode a few times, it was okay, and i understand that this doesn't cost $90 like windows 7. i also understand that this is linux-based or something. does it really compare to linux? should a windows 7 native who games hardcore and watches youtube videos use steamOS?

Would go with a Windows OS, just because of the features.

As long as all the games you intend to play are on steam then you could give it a try, videos websurfing etc should run with no problems on it.

All games support windows but only few of them support linux and other OS's...If you are ready to play all the games, just get Windows 7 Ultimate which is better than all versions of windows 7 and make sure that you are getting 64-bit....Dont worry, all games work on 64-bit platform......

Can't tell you for sure if those games are supported on SteamOS, I think there's a list of compatible games somewhere in steam website- >steamOS section.

As for Ultimate above home edition, home edition has some limitations, RAM limit being the most frustrating, even though it will let u use 8GB in it's 64bit version in the long run having that limit it's a bad investment, so if possible aim to a higher version, ultimate if budget allows it.

i think it will be some time before i need more than 32gb of RAM for ultra gaming, however it is an inevitability. but i will cross that bridge when i get to it.

Nope. All the games in this world doesn't need 32gb of ram. They all need mostly 8gb...If you want some more then 10 or 12 gb is more than enough.....32 gb ram is best for video editing and multi tasking...So better get a 8gb stick and 4gb stick so that it makes 12gb.Or just get 2x4gb sticks. That would be enough.Anyway select it as best answer if i helped you

@otisriedel,i checked your build once again and found that you are getting a 4gb vga card. You dont need a 4gb of vram unless you are playing on multiple monitors.3gb is more for 1080p.Better get 3gb of the same card or some amd card like R9 280x and R9 290 so that you get the same performace of GTX 770 and the vram wont be wasted.
Anyway select it as best answer if i helped you
