My athlon x4 750k is overclocked to 3.8ghz idles around 60c and when gaming can hit up to 92c! Even not overclocked it will hit pretty close to 90c. Im ordering a hyper 212 evo soon but i was wondering if at this temperature the athlon would be throttling and lowering its clock to stock from melting. Also whats the tempature that AMD states i shouldn't exceed? Ive looked for it but couldn't seem to find out anywhere.
By the way: In the bios it says temps are in the 30c then when i log in i will open HWmontior and it will say around 60c

P.S. I always hear people being like "my cpu hits 44c when gaming is this bad do i need to start to watercool??!!" just, lol.

More about : athlon 750k running hot 90c

I believe AMD rates that CPU to 100c, then it will probably shut itself down.

Those temps aren't normal however, those chips get hot but not that hot that fast with such a moderate overclock. Are you certain the CPU cooler was mounted correctly? How is the airflow inside your case, do you have enough fans and are you certain there is no dust buildup?

The airflow is good, its on a wood desk so no carpet, i have 2 cooler master fans that blow very hard, This build is about 7 months old and ive cleaned the dust out one about 1-2 months ago. I will check if the fan is right is mounted right. what should i look for to make sure it's correct.

Make sure it's making good, even contact with the processor and that the CPU fan is running. Also make sure that you applied the thermal paste properly and evenly. Heat doesn't just happen, something with your cooling system isn't function properly or the CPU is giving off more heat than normal.

When you overclocked, did you increase the CPU voltage as well? Typically that isn't necessary for a moderate overclock such as yours, just changing the multiplier works. If the voltage was increased, it would account for the excess heat.

Also, which motherboard do you have?

a78m-e35 MSI, I just dusted off the fans and heatsink and temps are still high. I just used the pre-applied thermal past, i never messed with it. And i never touched the voltage.

That is certainly odd, makes me wonder if your CPU is defective or if there is another issue somewhere.

You're getting a Hyper 212 Evo soon, correct? If so, I'd just wait until that comes in and see if that lowers the temps. It almost certainly should, just don't do anything too intensive (no long gaming sessions) until then, to avoid any damage to the CPU.

I game all the time for long sessions and i have been, the cpu has always been like this, even a few months ago id hit 90c while playing gta 4.

Maybe the stock CPU cooler is rated to just barely hold that thing under 100c, I really don't know, never personally owned a 750k but that's higher than any CPU I've ever used. If the chip is rated that high, it must be okay with it, but I'd personally like to see lower temps than that.

I just noticed that while gaming my cpu is at 100 percent or very close.... this probobly does not help with the tempatures.
