Is buying a more expensive motherboard going to be worth it?

I currently do a lot of 3D rendering using 3D studio max 2013 and Vray as the render engine.
On my main PC, my motherboard is an ASUS M5A97 R.2.0 with an AMD FX-8350 CPU

I have found I can't really overclock the CPU at all, as when I do overclock then render a file in 3D studio max, the program just crashes all the time. As soon as I got rid of all overclocking, problem solved.

There is obviously an issue with the overclocking and the software.

My question is, would a better motherboard get rid of this problem when overclocking?

On another note, when I do overclock on the board I have, I can get a speed of 4350ghz which is ok but I would have thought I would of got more with the cpu being water cooled.

The RAM is 32gb of Corsair Vengeance 1800mhz and the hard drive is a samaung EVO SSD.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks.
