Hi there,

Thank you for taking a little time to look at the build i'm planning to do and the components to purchase.

This post have these simple objectives ;
- Is everything compatible.
- Are all the components adequate for my needs or overkill.
- Looking for components replacement suggestions.
- Making sure i don't screw up my first build.

Notes: I live in Canada/Quebec, so the prices might be different from US residents.
I'm thinking about buying most of the components from Newegg.ca
Prices include rebates and mail-in, but does not include shipping.
I'm planning to add a second video card in about a year, if needed ofcourse.
I'm not planning on OC yet, but in the future, absolutely.

.: Components :.

CPU : Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
$248.98 - Newegg Canada

CPU Cooler : Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
$98.99 - Newegg Canada

Thermal Compound : Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste
$5.79 - DirectCanada

Motherboard : Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150
$189.99 - Newegg Canada

Memory : G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
$79.99 - Newegg Canada

SSD : Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
$149.79 - DirectCanada

HDD : Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
$149.79 - DirectCanada

Video Card : Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card
$374.99

Tower Case : Corsair 760T Black ATX Full
$168.12 - DirectCanada

Power Supply : Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
$164.99 - Canada Computers

Operating System : Windows 7 - 64bits

Additionnal Fans : Corsair CO-9050016-RLED 52.2 CFM 120mm Fan x2
$19.99x2 - Amazone.ca

Other Components :
- An older 2TB HDD, for video/movie storage and back-up
- An DVD RW drive from my old computer.

The cost should be around 1500$ - 1600$ CND with shipping.

Some other questions;
-Is it possible to ''switch'' my OS from a computer to another ?

-I would also appreciate if you could suggest me a cheap but good LED ''wire'' to put inside my case to illuminate the interior red.

-How do you change default installation paths in windows, so it doesn't always install in the SSD or the wrong drive ?
Thank you guys for your comments !

$248.98 - Newegg Canada

CPU Cooler : Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
$98.99 - Newegg Canada IMO, overkill. You'll get perfectly adequate cooling from a CoolerMaster 212 Evo at a third the price.

Thermal Compound : Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste
$5.79 - DirectCanada Unneeded. The stock TIM with the Evo will work just fine.

Motherboard : Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150
$189.99 - Newegg Canada

Memory : G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
$79.99 - Newegg Canada

SSD : Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
$149.79 - DirectCanada See below.

HDD : Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
$149.79 - DirectCanada Why? You are reusing an existing 2tb hdd. If you plan on this for installing games, fine, but in that case a smaller ssd will serve you fine. You won't find a great deal of difference in running a game from either type of drive.

Video Card : Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card
$374.99

Tower Case : Corsair 760T Black ATX Full
$168.12 - DirectCanada

Some other questions;
-Is it possible to ''switch'' my OS from a computer to another ? If your other computer is an OEM (Dell, Hp, etc), then no. If it is a home brew, maybe. You can certainly ask microsoft if they will permit it. Sometimes they will allow a transfer if the original machine has had a catastrophic failure or such. Never hurts to ask.

-I would also appreciate if you could suggest me a cheap but good LED ''wire'' to put inside my case to illuminate the interior red. See THIS link

-How do you change default installation paths in windows, so it doesn't always install in the SSD or the wrong drive ?For installing windows, connect only the ssd, do the install, then re-connect your hdd. To change installation path of games, etc., each game should give you the option during installation to install to a different drive. Just choose your hdd and you're good to go.
Thank you guys for your comments !

--Thank you, i will consider changing my cooling solution. But if i'm planning on OC in the future is the H100i still overkill ?

Thermal Compound : Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste
$5.79 - DirectCanada Unneeded. The stock TIM with the Evo will work just fine.

--I've heard that most Thermal Compound that come stock aren't great, but i guess it will do the job just fine. Thank you.

SSD : Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
$149.79 - DirectCanada See below.

HDD : Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

--I was planning on using the SSD for my OS and my most used games or the games with long loading time,
-The black HDD for other gamesthat i won't play as frequently and applications like Auto-CAD, Revit, photoshop and important files etc.
-The other 2TB in my current computer is a ''WDC WD20EARX-22PASB0'' and i don't really trust that drive with anything too important since it came with a ''Gateway'' all in one tower. I was planning on using it as a drive to fill with Movies, videos and other not important media. Also for back-ups.

But i get your point, i might buy that same SSD and just use my old 2TB drive until i need a new one, unless you think its a bad HDD.

Power Supply : Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
$164.99 - Canada Computers

-I was wondering if this power supply is good enough to handle 2 video cards, gtx 770.
I might buy another one in a year if needed.

-I forgot to mention, my computer i have right now use a i7-2600 not the 2600k, it is a great processor still.
Is it wise to better upgrating to the i5-4690k or keep that i7 ? In one hand it has hyper-treading witch is usefull for rendering and multi-tasking on the other hand its not a good processor for OC and since its a 2011 chip, it might need it soon. What do you think ?
If i keep it, i might have to verify if the Hero VI is compatible.

-These LED are perfect !

Thanks for the informations !
Now the question is, saving the money you made me save or use it for other components ?:ange:

I wanted tu update this topic,
I think i found a better PSU, i've found out the corsair 760w have many DOA.
What do you guys think of this EVGA PSU (Link)?

Its less expensive and have a 10y warranty as well. I'm just sad there is no red to match the color scheme.
Its a 750W instead, but i've found an online calculator and 750W should be fine for 2 gtx 770.

If you don't plan to do rendering/video etc., the I-5 is more than enough for gaming. Personally, I would never buy an I-7 unless I needed the multi-threading portion. The -5, especially the k series, will run any game out there.

The EVGA is a great psu, however, 750w is not quite enough for sli 770's. You really should step up to 850w if you are planning to run two of them.
