Screen Dark, Can Barely See Display

Hi everybody. Longtime reader, first time poster.

I have a Gateway M8711 laptop and it has a screen that is very dark. You can faintly see the display. Here's what I've done so far:
1. Tried the fn+ f4 to toggle monitors- did not help.
2. Hooked up an external monitor- it worked.
3. Purchased a used inverter- did not help.
4. Purchased new lcd screen (tried with old and new inverter)- did not help.

I'm pondering purchasing another inverter to see if the one I bought was bad.
If anybody has any ideas (besides throwing the laptop in the trash), I would greatly appreciate it.

Did you try turning the brightness up?
If its not the inverter, then its the backlight

Hi popatim. Yes, I did try the brightness but didn't help. I installed a new lcd screen, which has the built-in backlight, and it did the same as the original screen so I don't think it's the backlight.
