It's finally time to upgrade my old HD 5850 1GB, after 5 years of service. Since my i7 920 would be a bottleneck to high end graphic cards and I don't want to overclock it, I figured GTX 760 2gb would be the best NVIDIA option.
My question is, should I get it now for ~230€ (cheapest I could find in my country), or wait for a price drop until November (waiting more than that isn't an option)?

Thank you for your time :)

Gtx 760 is a great card and I would get it if you can afford it. There is little incentive to wait as the price won't drop drastically with the coming of the 800 series (if you were going for 780 or 780 ti is would be a different story). Your 5850 is a joke for modern gaming and the upgrade would be massive.

yes a 760 would be a good upgrade, and i dont think the i7 would bottleneck anything...

You're right, this thing struggles to give me 60-70fps on BF4 in 1080p, medium settings, FXAA.

This might be a stupid question, but don't some "Ultra" presets include advanced physics and other CPU dependent stuff? (not talking about GPU accelerated Physx).

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll buy this card soon :)

A little off-topic but I am interested in knowing more about the 780/780 ti comment you made. I currently am looking to buy either a 770 or a 780. Say I want to go for a 780, should I wait?

I would. GTX 780 would probably get re-branded to 870 with a price cut with the release of the 800 series. The gtx 770 will probably stop getting made together will a better and more efficient gpu replacing it as the 860. While these are assumptions, the price cuts are certain.

You can use CPU to render PHYSX, but it is not ideal. I would use the video card for that since it may cause a perform hang if you CPU were to reach 100% usage.

As being said prices won't drop for a 760, you see plans are to make 870 and 880 which may cut prices for 780 cards and such, 760 will have a steady price for this year! maybe when 860 will launch we will may see some price drops at the remaining 760 which still its not for sure,,,, if I had the money I would buy it now, and stop waiting for price drops ,only a store offer will be the thing to look, mane e-shops make daily or weekly offers , you might be lucky and find one 760 that's cheaper than 230
