Hey guys,

I need some help in regards to processor/mainbord selection for my HTPC/Steam Machine.

The system will run SteamOS/XBMC, mostly used for media playback and Steam in-home streaming. (I might install some games directly)

These components I have already picked:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 750 1GB Video Card ($124.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Silverstone RVZ01B Mini ITX Desktop Case ($84.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: SeaSonic 300W 80+ Certified SFX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Mwave)
Total: $249.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Now where I'm stuck is the processor mainly.
I have been looking at the Intel Pentium G3258 unlocked processor. However I do not really want to buy an extremely overpriced (for this build) Z series motherboard. I know some companies have enabled the overclock on B and H series motherboards, but I'm wondering if and for how long Intel will let this happen.
My other thought was to go for an i3 4150.
I'd most likely go for the MSI B85I Gaming motherboard.

Any suggestions more than welcome.

Question is, what if Intel decides to take away the overclocking from the non-Z boards again (I've read somewhere that they've done that before).
Will the G3258 be good enough on its own (without OC), or should I rather go for the mentioned i3?

once you have the overclocking H81 or B85 and have updated the Bios to the overclocking model, there is nothing you Intel could do about it.

As they want the Pentium G3258 to compete against Athlon X4s, the won't mind anyway
