Good evening all!! First time poster but have been building and repairing PCs and laptops for 10+ years so am very familiar.

Upgraded MoBo, CPU and RAM on one of my rigs. Got it fired up in no time but noticed immediately that the CPU was running very hot. Speccy was telling me just after a reboot that the CPU was 85-90C. It even idled around 55-65C - still thought this was very high especially for idling. I decided to get a Hyper Cooler 212 EVO as I had same issue with my slightly overclocked AMD FX-8320 - now I don't think I see it go above 35C when taking on massive loads and it idles around 28-30C.

Installed the Hyper Cooler 212 EVO and although the temps are slightly lower it still idles rather high and gets upwards of 80-85C when taking on full load.

My question is - why with the same exact cooler is it that the CPU with 8 cores clocked at 3.7 runs significantly cooler than the CPU with 4 cores clocked at 3.9? I know the AMD A8 6600k is a 100W CPU but that can possibly be the reason for the large increase in heat even with a Hyper Cooler 212 EVO.

Anyone suggestions would be great, thanks!

the 8320 was not running at 35c load, that is a false reading. make sur eoyu dont use too much thermal paste, only about the size of a cooked grain of rice :p

I don't believe it either but I can run Prime95 for a more than a few hours and verify temps with 3 different programs and it never appears to go over 35-40C.

Your CPU is running just fine... The problema is temp Reading on the FM2 is a bit broken... Use HWmonitor.

I do use HWmonitor to monitor both temps as well as other apps to verify - see image in above post. I am not worried about my FX-8320 I am worried about my A8 6600k. The FX runs very cool - temp reading broken or not. They both have HyperCooler 212 Evo's cooling them. The FX-8320 runs "cool" the A8 6600k runs very hot when taking on the smallest of loads and rather warm while idling.

Yes i know what you are saying, i got a FX 6300 and a A8 6600k too. Again, the temp readings on FM2 are glitched and shows high temps everytime.

Yes I understand but 60-70C when idle?!? That's alarmingly high for idle - should be more like 35-40C especially with a HyperCooler 212 Evo. You are saying even these high readings from AMD overdrive are skewed as well.
