Using VGA for video and HDMI for audio, Windows detects HDMI as second monitor

My current setup is my monitor is connected using VGA, and I have a soundbar and subwoofer that connect through HDMI. This works just fine, however Windows detects the HDMI output as a second display even though I'm only sending audio through it. From what I understand this will effect my PC's performance. How can I disable the second display but keep the audio?

Solution
If you're not sending video output through the HDMI, it won't affect the performance at all. You can disable the second display by right clicking on the desktop and going to "Screen Resolution". Just make sure it's set to only display on your main screen. You can't disable the output from being detected.
