Programs in Vista System Won't Print to New HP Deskjet 2543

I recently purchased and installed a new HP Deskjet 2543 printer on my Vista Home Premium system. It prints the internal reports/test pages just fine, but will not print from a document on my Vista system. I'm using the USB cable setup. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the software several times. I see the printer as the default when looking at Contro Panel/Printers, but never see a document in the queue. I've even tried uninstalling the software completely, disconnecting USB cable, cold rebooting, turning on printer, reconnecting USB cable and letting plug-n-play do its thing. Same thing, still won't print. I'm stumped. I've never had this kind of problem installing a printer. I've run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. It indicates everythng should be OK, but it won't print a test page, only the internal printer test page and suggests uninstalling and reinstalling software again. I'm in an endless loop. HP says chat is not available for this printer. Help!
