Someone's been snooping on the Tor network, using previously-unknown flaws to undermine the network's anonymity and possibly spy on users.

Well, I for once will start using Tor browser so much more often. Just to give the sniffers some harmless traffic to sniff at and be confused some bit. Accessing regular web a bit slower but accessing completely legitimate sites. Some day even doing that may be a crime, but not today.

Why this would surprise any users of such services is beyond me. It is logical, for law enforcement purposes and cyber-security, to look into these protocols for legitimate, legal monitoring efforts.

If users are breaking laws via Tor (or any of the bazillion VPN sites of questionable trust and value), then they should be prepared to pay the consequences for their actions.

This is not a matter of people exercising their right to free speech.
