When I try to install steamOS, it automatically partitions my entire drive for use with steamOS, but because I want to dual-boot I click "undo partition changes". Unfortunately, unlike all the videos and pictures I saw with tutorials, upon clicking "undo" my hard drive shows no partitions at all, not even free space.

Happens with both Valve and Stephensons Rocket installer.

Yes, I am using expert install.

I already checked that.

I think that the SteamOS installer does not detect my partition table correctly and does not see my NTFS partition for windows.

try this in windows open disk manadgment and shrink your primary partition to the desiedred lenth you want it to be so you can afterwards install use the free space to install steam os on it.
when finished delete the partition so it is not formated a partition with unused space.go then and try to install steam os on that partition.

I already tried with free space and with unallocated space but it doesn't work.

The SteamOS installer is definately not reading my file system so maybe it has a problem with reading my partition table.

Was fixed by making a new partition table (which unfortunately required windows reinstallation).

Apparently I did not have one to begin with.

i wonder if you have used gparted and made a new primary partition and formated it using ext4 if it might have helped but looks like you figured it out yourself.
