i used to be able to use a tv as a monitor with hdmi before i updated from win8 to 8.1 but now it says that i need to install new drivers or a video card but they are both up to date

i dont know what type of pc i have

Windows 8.1 requires different drivers for many hardware devices as Windows 8.0 drivers often aren't compatible.
You can download 8.1 drivers from your PC or laptop manufacturer's website.
