So, I really want to know from those with some knowledge of processors. HP unveiled its concept of "The Machine" in Discover 2014.
If it does become a reality, how much of a leap forward will it be (in theory)?
I understand that removing the RAM from the middle and having the processor interact directly with the storage and using photonics for communication between the components improves the speed with which the data is moved around. But what about the processor itself?

If it is such a revolutionary thing, how much will each of the following benefit from it?
1) Servers, Data Banks etc
2) Scientific Computing.
3) Everyday PC users like us.

Thanks you. :)

1. Faster transfer of data between servers, or nodes in a farm
2. Faster processing
3. Who knows.

The first devices won't be out for years, so speculation as to 'how much' is simply...speculation.

"When released, the Machine is expected to replace a data center’s worth of equipment with a single refrigerator-size device. "

Will the processing speed of the processors need to improve drastically for 2 and 3? To fully utilize the improvement in data transfer speeds?
