Ok, this may sound like an old discussion but it's not so don't shoot me before you read the post.

I currently own an Xbox One. Primarily for playing Madden Football (I run an online league and all my friends play on Xbox). I'm also looking forward to Destiny and Halo Master Chief Collection. I also own a "Decent" PC: AMD Fx-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core, GTX 760, Patriot Ram 2x4GB, 600W power supply, 7200RPM 1TB HDD, ASUS M78 board.

I've been a console guy my whole life starting on Nintendo and progressing since then going the Xbox route. I prefer a controller versus keyboard and mouse (I've tried but I'm 35 and stuck in my old controller ways). I'm finding though that a PC is not cutting it for me in supplying my additional gaming needs. I like sandbox, strong stories and the occasional FPS games. Favorite games in the past have been Skyrim, HALO 1-4 (F*** Reach), Far Cry 3, Fallout(s), GTA's, Bioshock(s), Hitman(s) and basically any sports game (Baseball, Basketball and Football). All of these games were bought and played on consoles. I've only recently (past three months) delved into the Steam world.

Here is my dilemma - I like my PC and the value I get from games thru Steam Sales. I took part in the Summer steam sale and was pleasantly surprised at the deals I found. I like the superior graphics on my PC versus my Xbox360 and I could tell instantly when I still had my 360 a month ago. However, there are still games that I would like to play that aren't available on either the Xbox1 or PC but are on PS4. Games like MLB The Show '14, Uncharted 4 and The Last of US are the main ones. I've never been a PS guy either but they do have some pretty cool games I would like to mess with. So I guess my question is as follows?

I'm debating on selling my PC rig for a PS4. For the style of gaming I like am I'm ditching out on the PC world too soon? I'm not big into emulating or indie games, or MMO's or MOBA or waiting 6-12 months for a game to be cheaper thru Steam. I do like the superior graphics that a CPU provides me but I'm just looking to game and am fine playing a console on my 50" screen. I'm more than happy with the way it looks. I'm a family man with responsibilities and have no desire to mod or even play thru Skyrim again with different mods despite how much I loved that game. Is there anything the PC can provide me and my gaming preferences that I'm missing out on by jumping to PS4? Is the PC going to get Sports games back sometime in the future? Does the PC have exclusives that I don't know about?

I'm almost ready to make the switch to PS4 in the next day or so but don't want to in case I'm missing a big component of what the PC has to offer. I value this website and have been stalking it for close to a year now. I appreciate and look forward to all of your input.

Thanks,

I read all your post, and it sounds to me like you have already made your mind up. If your only interested in console games, then your choice would seem clear, and I am not going to try and convince you to change your gaming choices.

And yes, the PC gets exclusive titles all the time, more than the consoles, but I doubt a console gamer would really be all that interested in them. Plus you state you dont play MMO's like WoW, so it would seem your tastes are stuck in the console world. If that's what you are interested in, that's where you should spend your money I guess.

Well, I'm not trying to start a debate here. I know what the consoles framerates are and I'm content as they meet my gaming needs. I asked for an objective opinion and you obviously didn't get that.

Thanks for your informational feedback.

Thanks for your response Lee. I appreciate your insight. I'm still not sure why there has to be a war or "I'm better than you mentality" when it comes down to what gaming platform someone prefers. It's all about personal experience and preference right? Even in your response there are tones like I'm "Stuck" in a somewhat horrible world of gaming. lol. I do appreciate your feedback. It's helped make my choice very clear.

I was at a similar crossroads about a year ago except I was trying to decide to invest purely in next-gen consoles or go all-out on PC. I decided to go for PC and in order to do so I had to sell my 360 and all my games for it. Like you, I also had a decent PC but not strong enough to play newer games at good frame rates. I understand how you feel about consoles. My brother owns a PS4 and he absolutely loves it even if it doesn't run games at 60+ fps or have higher image quality. He likes the PS4 because it feels right to him; the feel of the controller, the look of the PS4, the software, etc. However, I'm really glad that I chose to go with PC because it offers things that you just can't experience with consoles.

I wouldn't be so hasty to toss your PC out the window because the PC offers many things the consoles don't. The PC is capable of doing pretty much anything any other electronic device can do. Your PC is capable of doing so much if you allow it to. It plays music, you can watch DVD and Blu-ray movies, you can surf the internet, you can do schoolwork, do the bills, chat with friends, play games, and probably a bunch of other things I haven't described.

When it comes to exclusives I'd say that Microsoft and Sony have the best because a lot of the exclusives that aren't Indie games are AAA titles while a lot of exclusives on PC aren't usually of the same quality as console games. However, I would like to point out that the PC is probably the best (just my opinion) to experience games in general.

I know you talked about preferring consoles and being a family man so you don't have time to do mods for games and all the stuff that can typically be associated with PC gamers but you don't have to be like everyone else with your PC. That's what's so amazing about computers. If you build your own computer it is your creation that you can take pride in, it is unique. Once you've put the sweat and blood (less blood than sweat) into creating your PC, when you finally hear it boot for the first time and see that Windows logo pop-up, you know you've created something special. It's not pre-assembled in some warehouse in Japan by a bunch of machines and it's not going to look, run, and sound the same as thing that your neighbor has next door. The PC you build is unique and it is formed by your hard work and that's something you can take pride in it.

I mean, even if you forget the sentimental side of owning a PC, you're still going to have a beast of a machine that can play any Xbox One or PS4 game (save exclusives) except do it way better. I don't really care for all the fanboy stuff about PC's being better than Xbox one or PS4. Because the truth is, they are. When were talking about the boring performance stuff, the PC just blows the consoles out of the water no question. Better textures, better resolution, better anti-aliasing, better lighting, better shadows, better physics, better frames, better everything.

When it really comes down to it though it's not about how much VRAM your GPU has or how many cores your CPU has, it's about the way you feel towards that PC or console. I know that no matter how hard I try to convince my brother to primarily use a PC that my efforts will be futile. He's hooked on Sony, he loves his PS4, and no matter how many times I show him the graphics on my games and the fps I get or explain why his PS4 is inferior to my PC he always happily ignores me and sticks with his PS4. So, I've done my best to persuade you to give your PC another shot because I really think that you could fall in love with PC's, if you give them a chance.

Thanks for the thoughtful response Matthew. I sincerely appreciate it. For me it just boils down to exclusives. If I knew that the PC was getting the games I like to play it would be a no brainer. Better graphics, framerates etc. I have a laptop to do all the things I need a CPU to do outside of gaming so that is not an issue. I've built two PC's in my day with my latest being pretty stinking awesome and clean looking so I definitely get the taking pride in the machine you built. You don't get that with a console. If the PC had the games I liked I would be PC all the way. But, unfortunately we live in a gaming world where Devs value $$$ more than creating accessibility for all gamers. Until, they don't there will always be room in the gaming world for PC, PS4 and Xbox1.

Your very welcome, it's just important that you enjoy gaming regardless of the platform you use. I gotta try one more time though. What exclusives do you play and are you looking at getting. Also, I would like to point out that many exclusives that come out for Xbox One end up releasing for PC as well. Dead Rising 3 is a good example of that.

I've never really been an exclusive guy. I had some Halo games for Xbox 360 but I didn't play them as much as I would third-party titles such as Mass Effect. MMO's seem to take up the majority of the PC exclusive space but trust me, there's a ridiculous amount of exclusives for PC and really high-quality ones too. There are actually quite a few shooters that are exclusive to PC. ARMA III would be a good example and even though it's tough for me to bring up more examples off the top of my head, just know there's a lot of PC shooter exclusives.

In one area that the PC shines in is the absurd amount of Horror exclusives. I'll try to name a few good ones: Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Slender, Daylight, the recently released "The Forest", and a plethora of other games.

If you enjoy strategy games then the PC is the way to go (there are few strategy games for console). The Total War series is a very popular and one of my personal favorites. It allows you to jump back in time and control entire nations, ranging from: Roman era, medieval era, medieval-japan, the American Revolution, and the Napoleonic Age. You could go the sci-fi route and try out one of the Starcraft games.

There are so many Indie games, so many! It would take me a thousand years to name all the exclusive Indie games for PC. There's also lots of adventure and RPG exclusives as well.

In reality, there are far, far more exclusives for PC then for PS4 or Xbox One. I mean, while consoles cycle in and out and the line-up for the games on a particular console cease to exist, the PC games category keeps growing and growing. The Xbox One and PS4 currently have very few exclusives to offer and sure there's remastered games like The Last of Us but they're not true exclusives or true next-gen either. PC exclusives date back to...centuries back. I'm not even sure when PC games were first made. What I'm trying to say is, upon all of the other unique and epic things that PC has to offer over consoles (PS4 in this particular case), exclusives are one of them.

I'd also like you to know that I sincerely do have respect for you and your preferences. I think games are great form of entertainment, and I just feel that you should know that there's a lot to be had by owning a PC.

Haha you're awesome Matthew. One of the first Pro-PC guys I've met in a while that wasn't a total "I'm better than you prick." The vast majority of my gaming, 75%, currently is with Madden (I run an online league). I also play a lot of MLB The Show. Both are sports game that are non-existent on the PC. I play Madden on X1 cause that's where all my friends play. The Show is only made for PS so that is why I'm going the way of PS4. Outside of those, I have little gaming time left and it's not spent on much. I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the Halo Master Chief Collection. Been a HALO fan for years and was doing HALO lan parties with Xbox's way back in the day. I'm also looking forward to playing the title you mentioned, The Last of Us. Regardless if it's next-gen or not the game won a ton of awards and I've been wanting to play for a while. Destiny also looks amazing. Destiny isn't coming to PC though til later next year and to be honest I just don't want to wait. I'll play the occasional FPS, BIOShock, Fallout, Skyrim etc and those are on all platforms so that's a push. Really it just comes down to my preference at this time and where I'm at in life. If I was 14, I'd be all over PC gaming, the indies, the mods, master the keyboard/mouse and take the MOBA world by storm drinking cases of mountain dew every night listening to Watsky, Mac Lethal and a little Taylor Swift just for good measure. :)  Gaming is awesome. It's a great stress relief for those who use it as such. I think the gaming community as a whole should stop with the "We're better than you" mindset and start to put the pressure on developers to step their game up and stop being so greedy.

Well I had to try. I am Pro-PC, you're right, but I just love games in general and I know you'll be very happy and satisfied with the PS4. I knew I had to comment on your thread after I saw the responses from BustaRhymes and Lee-m because too often PC gamers are inclined to ridicule console gamers. I see it all the time on numerous forums and gaming websites and it's a shame people can't respect other people's opinions, and that goes for more than just gaming. The PS4 and The Last of Us kicks butt and I know you'll have a blast with both. :)
August 3, 2014 9:35:12 PM

I wasn't trying to ridicule lol I was only pointing out that consoles have low resolutions and low framerates. I have a PC, PS3, and PS4 so i feel I'm fairly objective.

There's a reason why PC game sales are soaring right now, people want the real next-gen experience. I bought the ps4 for exclusives as well so I understand that, but I would never sell my PC to get a ps4.
August 3, 2014 9:53:02 PM

Using the word ridicule did not necessarily apply to you but most PC gamers in general who ridicule console gamers. Also, it just seemed like you provided Salty with information they already knew and they needed someone to explain more in-depth the reason to consider PC over console (going beyond performance capability). I'm sorry if you took it in the wrong way but I was just trying to clarify why I decided to spend so much time on convincing Salty to not sell their PC. Truth is, there is too much discrimination against people with different opinions, and like I said earlier, it goes beyond gaming.
