HALP..!!Screen resolutions displaying unsupported ones too...!!

I use an old monitor for my pc..
Viewsonic VA1703wb(VGA)
It supports maximum resolution of 1440x900 and a max refresh rate of 75 hz..
Everything was fine when i was using Geforce 9500GT..
But now my friend gave me a XFX 9800 GT...(has a DVI and HDMI output)
So I bought a DVI to VGA converter..
Everything's working great..
But I'm not able to use the old resolution(1440x900)
Everything looks fuzzy..
So i can only use 1366x768@75hz right now..
That's alright..
But the main problem is..
Now when i go to screen resolution option..
I see the maximum resolution is 2560x1600(which of course my monitor doesn't support)
It says.."Out of range"
And the refresh rates show 75 Hz,85hz...It goes on till 170 Hz..(which again...my monitor doesnt support)

So when i play any game in fullscreen...(as you guys might know..on first start...They start at full res)
So when that happens..It says.." Out of range"
and game doesnt start..
If i have to play..Then i have to either play it in windowed mode..
Or at 1280x720@60Hz(fullscreen)
When trying to change resolution ingame..
It shows all those high resolutions and high refresh rates and now upto 240 Hz...
So none of the res works except 1280x720 and 800x600
None of the others work,,
So is there a way to disable these unsupported res and refresh rates..?

Thanks it worked..I got the old resolution to work..!!
But how to remove these high resolutions and refresh rates which my monitor doesnt support...?

The only one remaining is 85Hz...
How do i remove that...?
