I have a Phenom 2 X6 @4.2GHz. Will this outperform that? This Hz for Hz should perform on par with the Phenom 2 by now I would hope.
Games are about even but look for the 8 cores to get a big boost from dx12 and mantle. Here is a comparison of the 2 under DX11. Note your OC doesn't matter as you should get about the same results from this fx-8300.I have a Phenom 2 X6 @4.2GHz. Will this outperform that? Yet still no high end laptop CPU/APUs
Actually you're not entirely correct. The FM2 750K and 760K were Trinity and Richland based, respectively. As a result they were built with Piledriver cores. The 860K is the first CPU-only FM2+ chip, based on Kaveri, and using Steamroller cores. So the 860K is quite new in that regard and may be a good competitor to the unlocked Pentium if they price it right."new processors". No. Same old with new names and different clockspeeds. I would like them to actually release a cpu core that is a lot more efficient per-core and per-clock. They wont last much longer longer in the x86 cpu biz if they dont really kick it up a notch.
Wait. I thought there is already an FX-8300, so how does this differ?
I see, thanks for explaining!I believe this means that the OEM only FX-8300 will now be sold at retail. So we could now buy it at Newegg or Amazon instead of having to buy an HP or something to get it (not that anyone would be this desperate).
