Is the power consumption of a FX8350 vs a 4790K really that significant? I've heard by some it's greatly exaggerated while from others they say the amount of power the AMD processor requires is enough to put me out on the streets (jaja), overclocking even more so. Any truth to this? 'Cause for me I don't believe any manufacturer would make something that ridiculous for any consumer.

I'm looking into the FX8320 by the way and heard (pretty much) it's the same thing as the FX8350 if you plan to overclock. Any comments on this as well?

Oh, and if you think the Intel 4790k is worth the 100%+ pricetag in comparison to the AMD with the motherboard (my budget is about $1,300, without keyboard, monitor, etc.) input?

I play MMOs such as League of Legends and Final Fantasy XIV. I also do some video editing on the side, as a hobby. I wouldn't say I need to open multiple instances of Premiere, Sony Vegas, etc. I also spend most of my time on a computer while at home.

Let's assume I'm getting a R9 270X-like GPU (since it seems to be somewhat of a standard).

More about : power consumption amd intel appreciated

The 8350 does use notably more power than the 4790K which makes cooling more of a challenge but overall cost of running it won't be massively different. As you can see in the review for the 8350 it needed about 50W more than the 3770k,

Over the long term this doesn't make much of a difference, if you are paying 15 cents/kWh then you would have to have the computer running hard for 4.5 hours a day to raise your power bill by $1/month. The clock on your microwave uses about 3x more power than that over a month.

yes the amd fx 8350 is 125watt tdp and i7 4790k is 84 tdp .....and i7 is overkill for a gaming pc a i5 4690k would be good for gaming..
