Nvidia Disables PhysX Support on Vendor Mixed GPU Setups – Driver Update 340.52 Onwards

nVIDIA has recently released driver update code 340.52. Guys at BSN have made following discoveries in these drivers: -

1. Mixed Vendor Setup
If drivers detect a second non-nVIDIA GPU in the system, it will automatically disable the PhysX support and any program which would be requiring PhysX support will be using CPU PhysX not the GPU's PhysX. Different Vendor schemes are very rare these days though.

The only vendor that doesn’t interfere with the working of PhysX after this update is Intel HD graphics. AMD's APUs are clearly non-nVIDIA cards. So what would happen if a person installs nVIDIA's card with AMD's APU which is also a quite remote possibility - but nonetheless an option for the users.

2. VRAM requirement
Other requirement for PhysX to work is to have minimum 256MB VRAM which actually makes quite a sense because PhysX would require more VRAM. Now a days, cards are expected to have minimum 2GB or more with 1GB VRMA cards also in play. This thing should not hurt gamers.

3. PhysX Support for GeForce 8 series GPUs
PhysX support has been made available only for GeForce 8 series graphics cards. This leaves the most popular and selling 8000 series out of focus here. May be an attempt by nVIDIA to discourage users from using old cards. Though actual number of users using 8000 series cards may be few now. Heads up for gamers using older cards here.

What's wrong with this thread is that you didn't know that this is old news, like REALLY old!

So you knew as well huh? Hurrah! That's two, which means I'm not alone!
