I am going to be getting a GTX880 and of course I will need a new monitor to go with it. My sights were set on the Overlord X270OC which is a 1440 IPS panel that purportedly might hit 120Hz, but is guaranteed to be at least 96Hz. The Tom's review on it was great and pegs it up there in pixel response time in addition to their sample hitting 120Hz.

I recently learned of the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q which is a 1440 144Hz TN panel. Looking at Tom's review for it, it seems like a great option. The colors and contrast seem nowhere near as good as Overlord, but most issues seem below the visibility threshold. The response time is about 3ms faster (6ms vs 9ms) than Overlord to boot.

My concern are viewing angles with such a large panel. I currently have an older TN panel (Samsung 2233RZ) and the changes in light and color levels are atrocious based on the viewing angle. In fact, it's so bad (and I am not sure if this is something that developed with age) that even staring at the screen dead-on there is a difference between the top/bottom and the middle of the screen. Shifting around while playing a game results in changing light levels based on angles. That's a 22" screen exhibiting these problems, so I am concerned with a greater variance in angles on a 27" panel this would become an even bigger issue.

In short, I love fast panels, but I abhor dramatic variances in light and color levels. I wanted to see some opinions on this topic from people. I don't think the PG278Q is out in the wild yet, so unfortunately opinions on the product in-hand would only be seen on the Overlord part.
