Hello lady and gentlemen,

I need your help with deciding if this GPU is all i need to solve my performance issues.

I will try to provide as much data as i can for my predicament, hopefully without making this thread too boring. Right from the start i will list the most vital bits of my current rig.

PSU: Corsair CX750M Builder Series 750 Watt
Mobo: MSI 870A-G54 (MS-7599)
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1055T (2.8 GHz)
Cooler: Scythe Orochi
GPU: Radeon HD5670
RAM: 2 x Kingston KVR1333d3n9/4G (8GB)
System Drive: Kingston SKC 300S37A 120G
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I have a thing for flight simulators. The more complex the sim and the steepest the learning curve (not mathematically accurate i know) the better for me.

Unfortunately, there are only a handful of people which enjoy Flight Sims. They are often dark, perverted types like myself, who are willing to go through 700 pages of flight manuals and endless checklists, spend hours of practicing and call that "fun". As a result the community is small and good advice is scarce.

The sim i enjoy the most is DCS World by Eagle Dynamics.
DCS World is a free software that works as a platform for "modules" that you can buy. DCS modules, are 3D representations of actual aircraft, modeled with ridiculously high levels of accuracy (flight dynamics, structure mechanics, damage model, system & subsystem modeling, environment simulation, weather modeling etc)

The modules i currently own are: DCS: A-10C, P-51D, UH-1 Huey. Of those three, i get the best performance in A-10C and by best i mean terrible!

17 - 26 FPS @ 1920 x 1080 (it's my monitor's native resolution) . All other settings are set to absolute minimum.

I need to have at least 35 fps at near maximum settings. Is that possible if i just switch to the R9 270X or do i need some serious overhauling?(better CPU --> different mobo, more RAM, even better GPU).

I've asked GPU / Flight Sim related questions to a number of PC-tech forums and i get same responses: "Oh, get the Nvidia XXXX, it can play Crysis 3 at max" or "Buy Saphire XXXX, it can cope with Battlefield 4 at Ultra!" I haven't played those games and i don't know how demanding they are.
The thing is that, people fail to understand the difference of Video Games and Simulators. Sims don't have beautiful graphics and cool explosions. The best looking sim is equivalent to the worst looking Game. What they do have is a million different things happening at the same time even though you don't see them.

The bad news is that DCS world, only uses 2 cores. 1 for graphics, 1 for sound. So my 6 core AMD although it never let me down in video editing and sound design, is pretty much useless for gaming / simming and only 2.8 GHz. (I do plan in overclocking.)

I know it's too long, sorry about that, hope you make it through it and hopefully give me some good advice and ideas.

Thank you.

I have the exact same setup:
AMD Phenom II X6 1055t and the Sapphire R9 270X Dual-X 2GB.
I absolutely love it!
The Phenom will bottleneck the R9 270X in some CPU intensive games, but other than that,I have no problems.

Yeah but the 4gb version is a waste.

Your system is fairly good spec, but the current graphics card is a big let down, so the 270x will help in GPU intensive tasks.

You should check that software is relying on the GPU for the work, if its purely CPU work, then a faster single threaded CPU like an i5 would help a lot.

Thank you for your replies,

Yes, DCS is CPU intensive. Do you guys think 270X and an overclock will do the job? I really don't want to switch my CPU (and by extension my motherboard due to different socket) because it's really good at everything else i use it for. Plus my budget is very limited.
