Slow file transfer between external SATA RAID and internal Hybrid

Hello,

I have a Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II, SMART tests are okay, HDTune indicates nothing unusual. The drive is okay, its something to do the W7Pro HP 32bit laptop and its Samsung Hybrid Drive.

The file transfer speed starts at 80MB/s and rapidly drops off to <3MB/s in about 20 seconds. It makes no difference whether I attempt to transfer 1x 60Gb file or a folder containing 1000 MP3s, the effect is the same. HDTune indicates a constant 80-90MB/s for as long as I leave the test running.
It is connected via SATA, the problem is the same for Firewire and USB, although the starting speed is respectively slower. File transfers to a USB memory stick are acceptable, although not great.

The drive works very perfectly when connected to a different laptop, albeit one of the same model but in a 64bit flavour. I have updated the Intel and HP drivers and BIOS, updated the WD firmware. I have returned all the services to default. I have uninstalled old software. Better Performance and Write Caching are enabled.

After a slow boot, the machine runs quite well on the work network and runs Office2010 with expected vitesse.

Based on the HDTune results which I am guessing it transfers speed tests from RAM to the drive; It feels like the I/O is being flooded and jammed, but I have no experience on how to fault find this. I have read about moving the SATA from one connector to another, but this is a laptop, I am not sure if this is an option here.

What can be causing this behaviour?

Cheers in advance
