Why would some ask for ASL?

Honestly i just had to google this acronym... brainfart.... I did use MSN when i was younger but I don't think anyone ever asked straight up for that. so in a response to a post about PC hardware someone aksed "what is your asl?". Is that odd?

Location can be useful for working out what currency you'd be buying in and where you can buy. The rest is pretty unnecessary.
