Hello,

Looking for a motherboard for my first self built gaming PC. Narrowed it down to these 4 solely based on newegg.ca review and ratings:

1- MSI Z97-Gaming 7 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
2- MSI Z97-GD65 Gaming LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
3- MSI Z97 MPOWER LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
4- ASUS Z97-PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Does anyone have any input/recommendations? not 100% done my build. but i will be something along the lines of:

Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Quad-Core 3.5GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3 1866
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
Antec Eleven Hundred V2 Black Computer Case
And a power supply >600W (not chosen yet)

Thanks!

If this PC is used for gaming, I suggest something like this:
i5-4690K: 4770K is an outdated processor. The 4790K replaces it, but the processor is overkill and too much money. Go with the 4690K for $100 less. It's also unlocked, and you won't see any difference when gaming (it has the same clocks as the 4770K).
Your RAM brand is your own preference. I would go with Corsair's Vengeance Pro series, but it's your choice. Unless you overclock your RAM, just choose it based on its specs.
Try the Cryorig H5 CPU cooler. It's much better than the 212 Plus and doesn't cost a fortune.
With the money saved by choosing the 4690K, pony up for an R9 290. I suggest a Sapphire model, but ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and Powercolor will be solid choices, too.
The Phanteks Enthoo Pro is a stellar case at the $100 price point.
A good power supply is the XFX ProSeries 750W at around $100.

Now for your actual question: Out of these choices, the ASUS board is the best. However, I would actually suggest a cheaper board, the ASRock Z97 Extreme4. It has all the features you would need, and rocks are known for having a great bang for the buck.

Thanks man! great insight. I knew it was somewhat overkill but its my first gaming PC and I didn't wanna "under-do" it.

So the whole I5 vs I7 debate, is the I7 really overkill in my case? casual Bf4 gaming and heavy multitasker but no video editing
