Alright guys I need some serious, serious comments on this topic. In my mind its back and fourth AMD or Intel :pt1cable:

The i3 has 2 cores, hyper-threaded and has a very good upgrade path (1150 Xeons, i5s, i7s)
The FX8320 has 8 cores, shares resources for efficiency (not even close to Intel's), kicks ass in its price range, crazy, again crazy multi-tasking capabilities.

The problem here is which should I get?

It'll be paired with an R9 270 Non-X just because its basically the same card just under clocked...
This will be my main setup for gaming (Battlefield 4,NFS Series, Crysis 3 etc.), Photoshop/Lightroom , School work, and light video editing. No overclocking... Also looking into using it for 4-5 years

PERFORMANCE
In my research I've found that the i3 actually beats the 8320 (Surprise) in Battlefield 4 and has more gain using mantle. But this is only in one of the most graphically intense part of Single Player... Not sure how it will handle in 64 Player, plus I'm gonna play in smaller maps and under 64 players (What I enjoy) so yeah :bounce:

If I get an i3 it will be switched out with an $250~ Haswell/Broadwell Xeon (Say bye to a nice m/kb and Monitor)

If I get the 8320 well I'm gonna have a fun time watching torrented movies on a nice FHD TV in my room...

Sorry if it's long, tried to make it simple as possible :p Vote on the pole if you're lazy to explain :) Thanks for future help!

If you're going to upgrade to a Xeon get the i3 if not Fx 8320 will do just well for a few years but I would advise you to overclock it.

The current i3s are small beasts. Not too far behind i5s, and ahead of high-end FX CPUs most of the time. BF4 is one of the few games where they're close, as it can use up to 8 threads. The fact that the i3-4340 still competes with the FX-8350 under Mantle bodes very well for its longevity into the next generation as well. Games that use 4 threads or less (the majority) offer a heavy advantage to the i3-4340 over the FX-8320/FX-8350. Since it appears you already know that, no need for me to go on about it further.

You may want to look at the i3-4330 and i3-4350. Both of their performance is very similar to the i3-4340, and last time I checked both were cheaper (despite the i3-4350 being marginally stronger). Even an i3-4150 wouldn't bottleneck your R9 270X in anything, on a closer budget.

Here's another BF4 benchmark I found a while ago.

As for multiplayer...
Well, I can say that my i3-4360 holds up much better than the FX-8350 in MMOs like Guild Wars 2 or Neverwinter. The i3s certainly do not slouch just because more players are around.

I would probably go with the i3, as you can always go higher to the i5 or i7 in the future if you want. The 8350 probably performs better in some things, but there is nowhere to upgrade to.

If I get the i3 will it be fine for games like the Next Battlefield (After Hardline)? The current gen consoles are running AMD 8 cores and I'm guessing that they will optimize it for those 8 cores :|

Doesn't matter; the console 8 core CPUs are a bit weaker than a Pentium G3240. They could optimize for all 8 of the cores and the i3-4330 or above would still crush the console CPUs in every way.

As various links here have shown, the i3-4330 or above are also marginally faster (for gaming) than the FX-8320 even when all 8 cores of the 8320 are being used.

Short answer: An i3 should hold up well enough next gen, but if it doesn't then any AMD CPU right now will fail even worse.

Leaning towards the i3 right now :) So the i3 4130 is good enough right? I'm not gonna spend $30 for just the 4430/4460 lol and also how slow will video/photo editing and multi-tasking will be if I go with the i3 compared to say a 6300 or 8320?

NEVERMIND I just took out everything not needed in my build... instead of getting an NZXT 220 that includes 3 fans just got a Cougar Spike, took out the T4 heatsink, and a fan controler and BAAMMMM I can get the i5 4440 which I think will be better than the 8320 and i3 :p

I'd spend the extra $5-$10 for an i5-4460, in that case. The reason being, it's a 'haswell refresh' CPU so it should have improved thermal handling over the i5-4440.

Yeah but they are 8 very weak cores, so in pc gaming 4 threads will be great for a while yet.

Eight very, very, incredibly weak cores. As in "can't run World of Warcraft from 2005 at high framerates" weak.
