I've just helped a parental unit purchase a new monitor, and was surprised by the size/price I was able to get.

My own current display is an older Viewsonic VX2435wm (http://www1.viewsonic.com/products/archive/vx2435wm.htm). I decided on it because I didn't like the colors banding/dithering or viewing angles that TN panels showed. I watch/edit video, but I also game and I'm very aware of ghosting at the 8ms response time.

The replacement I'm looking at is significantly cheaper than when I bought the previous one, but the VX2770smh-led (http://www.viewsonic.com/us/monitors/vx70-series/vx2770...) is 3" larger, has a 1ms faster response time and claims capable of 76hz refresh rate instead of 60hz.

Considering color and image quality for video and ghosting for gaming, is the 5 year newer Viewsonic a step up, step down, or comparable display that is just 3" wider? (Speaker quality doesn't matter, I use externals.)
