trying to sell scrap computers

My father is a retired firefighter and has chosen to spend his days repairing laptops and desktop pc's. As such he has amassed a collection of around 25 laptop carcasses (no hard drives, no screens and no memory.) Its mostly untested motherboards and plastic cases. He also has 3 desktop pc's which are not working for whatever reason. I will point out, these machines are all old and untested and we have no need for any of them. I am trying to find a way to sell them and recover some money so he can move on to a new project. Any advice is more than welcome. We are not unrealistic and expecting hundreds of pounds but it would be nice to tell him I can not only clear his work shed but give him money to move on.

thanks everyone.

Hi

What do you mean by old?
A significant number of laptops motherboards fail after a few years and replacement motherboards are un economic.

A CPU or ram known to be working may be worth a small amount depending on size , age and standard DDR , DDR-2 , DDR-3

Look at adverts on eBay or similar for prices

But if CPU soldered to motherboard and system not tested and working it is not worth much.

Depending on where in the world you are there are regulations on disposal of electronic waste

depending on how old they are. they may be worth more as scrap than working pc's because older pc's tended to have slightly more precious metals in them so are worth a bit mor to the scrapper.
if there only a few years old it will depend on if you can get em to work if you cant they will remain pretty much worthless as a whole but you may get a return selling the parts separately... ddr2 is getting harder to find so the second hand price is climbing especially on decent branded stuff.
with some going for 20-30 a gig.
but honesly mate its a lot of guess work as you gave very little details about what the pc's contain...

as for the laptop chassis. if there in good nik , ie no screwdriver dings where its been taken apart. you should put them on ebay for 15-30 each. depending on make and model they could even be worth more. if there older theres still a good chance some 1 will want them, as lapptop cases typically only last a few years before they start cracking at the bezel.

MEDION MD96350, toshiba equium a60 and the likes. RAM sticks are mostly 512mb or 1gb. Totally uneconomic for my dad to continue with them, I was hoping there would be a recycling service somewhere that would pay a small amount for the parts but i can only find sites that accept full laptops. Thanks for the input Mike.
