Hi I have a problem with my 2TB Toshiba external hard drive (S/n: 83ONP4XKTXR6). It wont work on USB2.0 but I am able to view files from a colleagues laptop 3.0 USB "blue port". I have used it all the time on my PCs 2.0USB and then all of a sudden one morning when i plugged it in a message popped up saying that windows does not recognise the device. The drive spins but my computer does not read it. Also displays a lighter shade of blue on the device. Doesnt even pick up from disk management. What could have changed, especially since it has always been working from my desktop pc and now it will only read from a laptop USB3.0 port?

Hi
The only difference that I can think of that would affect this between USB 2.0 and 3.0 is that USB 2.0 supports power up to 500mA and USB 3.0 supports power up to 900mA.
Perhaps the hard drive used to take slightly less than 500mA and now for some reason takes slightly more than 500mA.
If this is the case a powered USB hub may rectify the problem.
By the way have you changed what you have plugged into the other USB ports on your computer at the same time as this failed as the total draw may be above what your computer can supply.
