Red and Black, yes ROG's color, but the looks of that board looks kind of cheap, especially the ram slots.
I think that heatsink with the ROG logo doesn't even do anything, it's just lights up. I like the Deluxe better, looks more elegant and that heatsink at least does something, since it's connected to the larger heatsink at the bottom where the X99 chipset is via heatpipe.
Here is their leaked Asus X99E WS!

Twelve SATA-IIIs as possible? Oh boy. Now, if one of you will send me a baker's dozen of those new First-Gen Seagate 8Tb drives, I'll start testing ASAP. Better send me 15 or 16, instead, just in case of DOAs or some of them are flung out of windows, suffer accidentally repeated sledge hammer blows or chainsaw tests. I mean - those things happen, right?

CPU air-cooling designs really need to start showing some creativity. They need to create a funnel-air cooler with air-tubes spiraling upward with copper-fins funneling downward, with a fan blowing down, thru them. Cooling all those 8 memory sticks, too, offering great clearance and all that peripheral area cooling. (I just hate having CPU air-coolers dictate my RAM usage.)
I wonder what Pratt & Whitney is designing these days? Didn't they have some excellent fans at one time? OK OK, those were called 'propellors' technically... but still... "prop wash" might be exactly what these boards could use.

Each X99 Asus board I see outdoes the last in aesthetics. That is one of the most beautiful boards I've ever seen. And it's a WS board so you know it's going to be rock solid with greater attention to validation and compatibility. If I were building a new system right now that's definitely the board I would go for.

Having seen the X99 Deluxe board, not knowing that I "feel" this board now. Absolutely adored the looks of the Rampage IV Black Edition. Kinda wish Asus would release this board in this state and also in a blacked out state. Darn near anything looks wise can be made to work with black, but not quite so with red. Some restraint on the amount of red (similar to the MSI X99 Gaming board) would have worked better I think but at least they didn't go the WAY overboard on red like ASRock did. Oh well, to each their own. Will still wait to see how it all pans out with the new chipset and memory issues (you know there will be planty) before jumping on this bandwagon

Not a fan of the boards Layout. Once again Asus isn't putting any thought into their Expansion slot layout. What if someone bought a ROG SSD? Or a ROG Soundcard? Yanno, people who'd drop $500 on a mobo probably bought that other stuff too. I'm not sure what you mean by this. The layout looks fantastic to me and actually takes advantage of the full 7 slot ATX form factor. There are lots of options for expandability here, including the 2 you mentioned, and all but one slot is 16x physical... so what's the problem?

All these X99 motherboards suck. they don't let me set up my sound card without blocking one of the graphics fans. Why isn't there a single X99 board set up like the Z97 boards? It's stupid.I don't know anything about your setup, but I'd imagine that if this layout doesn't allow you to install a sound card without interfering with the cooling on your graphics card(s), then few layouts will. What Z97 layout are you referring to?

That "Extreme" looks so tacky. Only place I can think of right now, where you see that is on the back of some bloke's home made bat suit, as he spread his wings when jumping off a building. Also it's mad large, so large you can spot it from the ISS! $500 for a board just for the "EXTRREME"!!! And it looks crooked.
They shouldn't have done it exactly like the Deluxe. But instead of white, make it red with some black and white accents. Also on the I/O cover, change X99 Series to ROG Series or leave that alone and add ROG "ROG X99 Series".

Basically any of the Z97 boards that put a PCIe x1 in the first slot and the Second slot is for the main GPU. This X99 board might actually let me set up my sound card without blocking a graphics fan, but it depends on the SLI bridge that it ships with. There are many other X99 boards where it is impossible to set up my sound card without blocking the graphics fan.

Hi there,
Its very surprising that they completely omitted the Ultra M.2 PCIE Gen 3 x4 slot.. These are easily available online whereas the SATA Express drives are still a distant dream with no idea of availability.
Hope ASUS includes it and this is just a missing element.....
Whats the distribution of the 40 PCIE lanes in the 4 x16 slots if all are populated.....
Cheers....

You're not limited to the x1 slot. You should be able to install your sound card into any PCIe slot on the board.
... well you know, except the ones your graphics cards are using/blocking.

That's what I thought about the Z97-WS. I got three with the same problem, and it took 10 days to get the first replacement board. The service was horrible, and the reliability was horrible. I have it sitting in an alternate case right now, with only one memory channel working, waiting until they get a little more stock, and then I'll try again. I know the issue is in the boards because I got the same issue with three different processors, four different memory kits, three different coolers, and two different power supplies.
