What are the differences between 4790k (Z97) and 5820k (X99). I know that the chipset is different but are there any improvements with 3D modelling and video editing exporting times. I know that haswell-e is made for that kind of stuff but is it really an upgrade. This is a guy who's going to update from the X38 chipset and Q9550. I know that there is DDR4 with X99 and I would have to upgrade my year old DDR3 ram for that but is it worth it? Is the extra 6 cores worth it? The extra PCI-E lanes? This will cost me $1000 since I am in Canada. Z97 would cost me $500 vs the $1000. Is it WORTH IT????? Also since I am currently with X38, I would like to stay extreme but I don't know if it is worth it.

So you only seem to have one question, here is one simple answer.
At this point, it is not worth it.

The performance gain will by no means be 100%, while the price is. You will see sort of a performance increase in 6+ thread applications. For 4 threads (as in games or most softeare in general) the 4790k on base clock will be faster.

Once prices drop, yes. Still depending on what you do, if you're not doing productivity work and get paid for it, I would still stick with the 4790k. If you're rendering a lot, the 5820k will be worth it, just not at this price point.
