whos this guy picking all these best answers over the op ? [ ErAnkurPaul selected this answer as the solution ]

More about : ramdom picking answer

ErAnkurPaul is a paid contractor to select BAs on old threads.

They shouldn't be changing any, and it shouldn't happen on current threads.

I donr removed them from my list before I thought about this -- needless to say I would not have brought this up if things did not look ''funny''

There's logs kept at the bottom of the post as to when it was selected/unselected and who by.

that's where I got this from -- ErAnkurPaul selected this answer as the solution --
to me It just takes away the creditability from the site cause the best answer was just a random pick that you can see was just off base then you think , well now how can I trust other answers to be true or of real help to the op and still may not have got a resolve .. would it not be as easy to give the op a quick message on the thread and if he don't reply in some way just close the thread ? that way someone is not mislead ?

There are several possibilities which is why I wanted an example. One is that you are right. The guy hired to give questions for whatever reason picked the wrong one. (accident, he didn't know enough about subject matter, etc.) Another is that you are wrong. Either because you don't know enough, or because you disagree and think a different way. If Paul picked the answer that said to buy the AMD XXX, and you FIRMLY believe that only Nvidia cards should be bought would disagree with that answer, even though it's not "wrong". Without an example I and others can only guess as to what's going on. If you see one again then bump this thread, or use the alert function. (the triangle button on the bottom right of each post.) I know paul has been working with the mod team, so if he's messing up a lot then I would think it would have been brought to our attention. I'm guessing either accident or disagreement.

well I overlook them amd is better then NVidia things anyway that's a personal preference i'll give this 24 hrs or so and see what comes up as an example to post ..

way back this went on with my thread and thought ''how the heck are you to decide best answer over me ''? and was not close to what I wanted to know and thought it would of been better to footnote the thread as to be closed due to I did not get the answer I needed to ''MY'' thread and that no best answer is way better then a random just for the heck of it answer chosen as the best that may mislead someone to use it and find it was a bad

one more thing I did see was moderators answers getting chosen over the rest that looks kinda self serving and favoritism .. also I been chose as best answer by this guy but to me if it was not picked by the op its feels meaning less unless all I cared about was my badges count and not useful real help to the op

Best solution

If you ever see anything odd going on then just PM a mod. I for one am happy to look at things and see if something isn't right that needs to be fixed.

The BAs aren't perfect and there are some of us who want to see changes made. In the mods section we have been talking about this. I don't know if any changes will ever be made. All we can really do is keep an eye on the threads. And because there are so many we need help seeing the threads with "wonky" BAs.

Edit: And because this site is so popular please use the alert function if you see ANY kind of inappropriate stuff going on. Bad user name, language in posts, etc. As many mods as there are now, we still can't be everywhere. So rather then make a new thread and say, "don't remember where it was", just alert us to the problem so we can sort it out. Please.

Tom's Hardware moderators are chosen from the most dedicated and most professional users. Our answers seem to be overrepresented in the population of best answers because they quite often are the best answer. A certain level of expertise is a desired attribute for a user to be nominated for the position. The BA system is not random, and there are certain policies in place to prevent abuse of the system while simultaneously preserving its integrity.

Amen to that. And anybody who doesn't believe it hasn't been paying attention or made any effort to contact a mod about something "wonky" and then stick around to watch how fast and conscientiously it gets addressed.

You would have gave it to the other answer? I agree that it's a bit off, but I see nothing wrong with it.

Edit: I would give it the best answer as it suggested using PCPartpicker to look for best price, compatibility, etc. Much better info then "I wouldn't buy a prebuild."
