Hey technofiles!

Have been needing some expert opinions on whether or not to upgrade my current system.

So at the moment it is what one would probably consider above average. I have a cushty gtx 780, however the CPU is lacking. My current CPU is a i7-2700k and I feel a somewhat minor bottleneck when playing cpu intense games.

As for the rest of my rig, I've got 16gb of DDR 3 ram, and a 2tb hard drive running on windows 7.

Now my question is whether I should upgrade to THIS or WAIT until next year, and if there would be much value in doing that?

I'd upgrade:
- i7-2700k to i7-4790K
- 1tb Hard Drive to Samsung 250gb SSD (current as backup)
- Windows 7 OS to Windows 8.1 OS
- Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Motherboard to Mod 1150 ASUS Z97 MAXIMUS VII RANGER Motherboard

Now should I make this upgrade, or wait until summer of 2015? What're your opinions!

PS one other key question! Is there any big difference (performance wise) than if I bought this mobo http://www.amazon.co.uk/1150-ASUS-Maximus-Hero-Motherbo... over this http://www.amazon.co.uk/1150-ASUS-MAXIMUS-RANGER-Mother...

Thanks!

I'd say wait till 2015 and see what happens. The 2700K is still a solid CPU and should not in any way bottleneck a GTX 780. Keep Windows 7. 8 is buggy and difficult to use. And no, the motherboard should not affect CPU performance unless you're overclocking.

Windows 8 is buggy and difficult to use? Are you alright?

Well, from what I have heard, it was buggy and unstable. I didn't say that, many people across the web did. From my personal experience, the start screen or whatever it is really interferes with ease of use. Now I know there are things like Classic Shell but still, I'd recommend Windows 7 over 8 any day.

Windows 8 might not be buggy but it is basically a kludge to use. Desktop and touch devices need separate operating systems. The Apple approach of keeping these separate has been proven to be a better solution. Now Microsoft is basically admitting this by how Windows 9 is going to handle touch and desktop devices.

And with 20 minutes of customization you get get win 8 to be a faster, optimized windows 7 with (in my opinion) better usability, graphics and definitely more customizability.
It was pretty bad at start, which pretty much every windows version is/was. There are still a few bugs and compability issues, but for general use it's just a faster win 7.
