Hello,

My build looks like this;

AMD FX-8350
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5"
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
MSI Radeon R9 280X 3GB TWIN FROZR

pcpartpicker estimates 489w total for those parts. Would I be fine with 600w? I wonder if anything higher is overkill or recommended to be safe. I have made my mind on all parts but the psu and I am close to my budget limit so I am looking for a price/performance unit.

My options are given below, including their approximate prices where I live.

CORSAIR CX 80+ BRONZE 750W... $144.5
COOLER MASTER RS-750 GX 80+ 750W... $137.5
COOLER MASTER G750M 80+ 750W... $137.5
CORSAIR CX 80+ 750W... $136
COOLER MASTER RS-700 G 80+ 700W... $124.5
CORSAIR CX 80+ BRONZE 600W... $118.5
COOLER MASTER RS-650 GX 80+ 650W... $117
CORSAIR CX 80+ 600W $107...
ZALMAN ZM700-GLX 80+ 700W... $104.5
COOLER MASTER RS-700 B 700W... $97
COOLER MASTER RS-600 G 80+ 600W... $ 97
ZALMAN ZM600-GLX 80+ 600W... $93.5
CORSAIR VS 650W... $93
COOLER MASTER RS-600 B 600W... $78.5
ZALMAN ZM600-LX 600W... $76.5

I would prefer an option slightly above the minimum requirement, just in case. Several dollars of difference isn't that important but I don't want to pay for what I don't really need at this point.

Thanks in advance for any answer.

You will be fine with a 600-700w PSU, only reason I would consider more is if you plan to Crossfire in the near future. If not, just stick with one of those. Modular is always great.

GO for EVGA G2 750 watt MODULAR PSU http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20750xr one of the best psu available in the market its a TIER 1 PSU it cost's 94$ which is a very reasonable price and has a solid 10 years of warranty so you dont have to worry about buying another PSU in the next 10 Years.

I don't plan to crossfire and/or overclock, but 600w still sounds a bit risky to me for a gaming build. I am no expert, but people usually suggest stronger PSUs. I have been thinking about ZALMAN ZM700-GLX 80+ 700W. The price isn't that bad, but I have no idea about its performance other than some unreliable comments on some seller websites. Is that model reliable?

Sadly, there are only a few EVGA units where I live. It has only recently entered the market. The unit you mentioned hasn't yet been brought. What about this one: EVGA 600B Bronze 600W 80+ BRONZE?

The other stronger models I can find are no good for my budget.

EVGA B1 in not that good then go for the b2 model in evga http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr or go with xfx 650 watt psu http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650bbefx

Thanks for your concern, but that model is not available either. The next model I can get is EVGA SuperNOVA 750 NEX750G 750W 80+ GOLD (120-PG-750-GR) and it is pricey. There is no other model in-between. XFX is also out of option for me.

Instead, could you take a look at the list I posted in the OP and suggest me a good price/performance unit from that list if possible, please?

the psu u have mentioned are all tier 3 series .
go with either of these PSU ......a good 550 watt psu with 30 amp @12+ volt is what you need . r9 280x TDP is 250 watt which you will only reach if u are benchmarking at maxed out gameplay the card will consume 200- 210 watt max.

I really appreciate your effort to help me, but I can't find any of those units you have been mentioning in my country :(

What about this one: Seasonic S12II-620 620W 80+ Bronze (SEA-S12II-620)?

For reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

It says 48A at +12V. There is also a modular version (M12II), with same specs, which costs about 10% more. Does it look good enough?

yes go with Seasonic S12II-620 620W its a good PSU and have enough wattage and AMPS than u need.
getting modular or non modular its totally up to u the quality will remain the same just a clean cable management with the modular one.

I have just found a cheap and powerful PSU, High Power Element Smart 750W (HP-EP-750S). 750W, single rail 56A @ +12V and it is modular while being only very slightly more expensive than Seasonic S12II-620 620W 80+ Bronze (SEA-S12II-620)

Official specs: http://www.highpower-tech.com/ID/product_page.php?class=20100527154213&id=20121210173928#product

I have made some research and the brand apparently belongs to Sirfa which belonged to Sirtec years ago before it was sold. Is High Power reliable? I couldn't find any review and it looks like it isn't even sold on sites like newegg, amazon etc.
