After much thought I plan on pulling the trigger soon on a 5820k vs the 4790k. My math tells me a 5820k build will be approx $300-350 more than a 4790k build, which doesn't seem bad considering both will last 3+ years. Running a 2600k build now since 2011 with no issues, but can use another system in our house. I can use the extra cores for VMs and chess engines:)

Question: Will all x99 MBs allow for dual channel with 16GB (8x2) until I later upgrade to another identical 2 8GB sticks for quad channel? I can live with dual channel temporarily but don't want to suffer with single channel ram speeds. 4GB (x4) sticks just doesn't make since to me long term.

I am pretty sure that you will be able to use dual channel memory just fine, especially as that is what most people choose, rather than quad channel
