I just purchased this monitor and I have tried setting it to the maximum resolution of 2560 x 1080 and it just flickers crazy and acts strangely. I know this graphics card can power the monitor. I have tried several DVI-D cables to see if that was the problem and they all exhibit this behavior.

The monitor is very stable at 1920 x 1080 resolution and I am using a single DVI-D cable. Is this a case where I have to use Dual Link?

Solution
Yes you need to use a DVI Dual link cable and connection, not to be confused with DVI-D which can be single or dual link.
