I'll start by naming the parts :)

MB: Asus a55bm-e
APU: AMD a6-5400k
CASE: (Doesn't matter, but why not?) Cougar Solution RTL
PSU: Raidmax 700w
HDD: 500gb
RAM: 4gb Team something...
GPU: Radeon Sapphire HD 6670 2gb DDR3

I'm wondering what fps I'd get in some more modern games.
Black ops 2
Battlefield 3/4
MW3
Rust
TF2
Ghosts <------ (Would it even be close to playable?)

If most of these games aren't playable. (30fps or higher) What parts should I upgrade, and what should I upgrade them to?

Thanks for any help!!!

That cpu may bottleneck the card. Also dual cores are not recommended for gaming. At least a quad core. Third, go with a 7000 series amd card. They are better are not much if any more expensive. 4gbs of ram is okay but 8 is about the sweet spot

My birthday is in about a week, so I'll hopefully have some upgrading monies. :)  Any idea about the fps?

an amd radeon 7970 will get 200 fps on max settings on games like war thunder and is only around $150 off ebay for a decent one. also for the cpu look at the a10-7850k. Ram: if your motherboard supports it some sort of 1866mhz 8gb ram module. also if you want a really good case get the corsair 450d and a season 650w psu

I'll look into those, but I'm most likely going to stay with the same case. I have a 4gb stick of RAM in the MB right now, but only because I ran out of money when I was buying the parts. :)
The APU you suggested, any reason to stay with an APU? Especially if I'm going to buy the 7970.
Also, I don't know how War Thunder compares to games like Battlefield 4 and Black ops 2, but what fps could I expect on those games? With the build listed at the start, I get great fps in Payday: The Heist. I know it's a few years old, but with my first PC I bought I was getting 2 fps on the MENU. THE MENU! Completely unplayable. Could you tell me the possible fps for some of the listed games, with the current build? Thanks again for all the help! (Back to research on the 7970, and the occasional drooling at the gtx titan.) XD

200fps and run battlefield 4 at max at 1080 at 60

Thanks :)  You probably don't care, but my current build was only $400. It runs mw3 pretty well for that price. :p

I might not even come close to getting enough for this, but does this combo look like it would run 2014 games? I'm ok with going down one notch in settings if needed.

It's the gpu I'm wondering about. I'm probably going to go with the APU you suggested, but will this GPU be able to handle games like BF4? If so, what fps?

It could at least get 60fps on max settings. I dont know the exact numbers though. The card is less powerful that the 7970 but not by much

Great! :p  I do have to ask, could I get away with a cheaper CPU/APU? If I get enough for the combo, it will be EXTREMELY CLOSE. I most likely won't have enough to get another stick of RAM. Any suggestions?

I'm leaving right now, so i might not get back until later, thanks for any input! :)

You could use a fx 6300. Its quite a bit cheaper but is a slow six core unlike the faster 4 core
September 10, 2014 8:52:20 AM

Actually instead of getting the a10 get the fx 6350. It is cheaper and better

But since it uses a different socket and your budget cant fit a motherboard nevermind

I did some research, and the a6-5400k should work well with the 7970. I think I'll go with the 7970, and another stick of RAM. When I get enough I'll upgrade the MB and the CPU. If I have a great GPU, there isn't really much advantage to buying an APU. Thanks for all the help! I have one last request, could you tell me your personal opinion about the probable performance of the a6 and 7970 together? As a reference point, maybe give me an idea of BF3 on max? Thanks again!

The a6 is an apu as well and i do not suggest quad core. You could be looking at between 5-10 fps better

I was doing a bit of research, and it looks like the r9 270x is a pretty good GPU. In your opinion, would the r9 be able to play bf3/4 and COD: Bo2/Advanced Warfare (When it comes out) at max/high with good fps? The r9 is a bit cheaper than the 7970, and it doesn't look like it's too big of a gap in fps. If you think I should still go with the 7970, say so. But if I can get away with it, I would really like to get the r9, a stick of RAM, and a new game or two on steam.

Actually, I'll just tell you my expected "income" from B-day money. It's likely that I'll get about $160-$180. I want to keep $60 set aside for steam, but with the $100-$120 I would like to get a GPU and a stick of RAM. (Preferably 4gb) I could hold off on the RAM if necessary, but I would like not to. With an ABSOLUTE MAX budget of $160 for the parts, (I hope I get enough), What GPU should I get, and what brand of RAM should I get. Also, it might be a stupid question, but could I run the 6670 I have now alongside another GPU. I don't know too much about stuff like that. :/  Thanks for all your help! :)

You could run crossfire... on a card that old (and its not a high end old card) I would say try to avoid that.
Video card:

the r9 270x will run worse than the 7970. If your max budget for the 2 is $160 4gb of ram is enough for gaming for now
