Hi,

I'm getting a GTX 770 and I can get either an FX-8 8350 or an i5 4690k. Which would be best? I've read that the 8350 is better for multi-threaded performance but the i5 is better for single-threaded (even though I'm not 100% sure what that means). Would I be right in assuming that the i5 is better for gaming and the 8350 is better for things like CAD?

Second, would a 550W PSU (12CM Quiet Fan) be usable with the gtx 770?
(More expensive options would be a 650W PSU, 450W corsair vs, 500W fsp 80+ bronze, 550W corsair vs, etc..)

Thanks in advance

Your initial thoughts on the 8350 vs the 4690k are correct, you'll see much better single core performance on the i5, while applications written to make full use of more than 4 cores will receive a boost. Additionally, if you commonly do a ton of multitasking, you might see slightly better overall performance with AMD. If you have single-threaded applications that are very CPU-intensive, you should think about getting the i5. Some games aren't optimized for more than 4 cores still, but they will be eventually, so AMD's option is a bit more future-proof too.

As for the PSU, check out the thread we have here on them: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-su...

Get something in tier 1 if possible, but no lower than tier 2 class b. PSU is not something you want to overlook in terms of quality.
