Hey Guys!

I'm working on my parts list for a new Pc build i'm working on with a budget of $1500. I already have my OS, a 120GB SSD, and 2 750Gb 7200RPM drives. I also have ~3 5400RPM drives 500Gb-1Tb which as of now, will not be included in the build unless you guys think I could/should add them to my RAID array. I have a 36" HD TV to be used for my monitor and have a mouse and keyboard.

I will be mostly using Davinci Resolve & premiere CC with some Photoshop and After Effects used routinely as well. The primary footage I will be editing is CinemaDNG RAW from blackmagic camera's, with some 7D and GoPro thrown in every now and then also.

Here is what I am thinking of doing for the build

EDIT: Here's an updated list to a 4930k with 32GB of RAM aswell

CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($569.99 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($213.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($305.98 @ Newegg)
Storage: Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($73.49 @ Amazon)
Storage: Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($73.49 @ Amazon)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($244.98 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Phantom (Black/Green) ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($64.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $1696.88

I will use my SSD as the OS drive, the 2 2TB drives in RAID 0 for my media/Projects drive and my 2 750GB drives for scratch disks.

I won't be buying this for another 2 months so if something new may be coming out, I would love to hear, as well as any suggestions/feedback as this is my first build ever. I really just threw that case up there for completeness, but I am probably going to get another depending on what I think looks the best and has the best features.

Thank you so much for any feedback!

Kyle

I recommend this build.
It's with a fast & cheaper 16GB 2400MHZ RAM, and is also with a 780ti, and is 19$ cheaper!!!!!!!!!

I made this build list in 10mins.

Now I will tell you why I recommend this over the other build:

A 6-core processor isnt much required, the Intel 4790K is cheaper and very good quad core 4.0GHZ processor which can be OCed upto 4.7GHZ on liquid cooling.

32GB RAM is too much. When you are gaming, GPU RAM is mostly used. When you are multitasking/editing a lot, more than 10GB RAM isnt used. So 16GB is more than enough. And, in my build, I added a much faster 2400MHZ Gskill 16GB RAM, cheaper than your 32GB 1600MHZ RAM.

Z97 is newer and better than X79, except for the support of extreme edition processors, which isnt much required. So I added a nice budget-friendly Z97 mobo

4TB Storage is bad & too much. So I added a 2TB 64MB chache Barracuda and a super WD BLACK 1TB. You can RAID it to get 3tB superfast high-perfomance storage 124MB Cache.

By adding cheaper & better components listed above, you can save money, and use the money for adding a better card. I added a 780ti, much better than a 760.

Seasonics are better than the Corsair PSUs, as Corsair uses cheap, but not good capacitors.

There is no need of a Full tower case. Mid tower cases are enough.

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I would, however, have to disagree with you on some of the suggestions you made.

The 4930K processor is a much faster CPU than the 4790k, and has 2 more physical cores. The increase of the cores speeds up rending time significantly. Editing video takes the biggest toll on the CPU by far, and I will spend a large portion of my budget on it.

RAM is another critical part of a video build, as when using Premiere and AE, it can use most of the 16GB and I have even heard people saying that their project was so big, it completely maxed out 16GB and forced them to get 32GB.

The MOBO is needed with the 4930k

A single one of my projects using RAW is around 500GB-1TB, so if anything, 4TB is a little on the small side. It will be used in RAID0, so it will be plenty fast.

GPU's are hardly ever above 20% while editing, as long as it has Cuda and will be supported by GPU boost in Adobe, then there is marginable gains in me upgrading it. It would be better served in the CPU as that takes the brunt of the strain from editing.
