Hello everyone,

I am relatively new to PC gaming, and I am looking to build a gaming PC. I have chosen all of the components that I want considering everything (Value for money, performance, etc), and would just like to be reassured that it will all work & hopefully work well!

CPU - AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ 14MB Cache
GPU - PowerColor R9 270X TurboDuo OC 2GB
RAM - 2 x Crucial 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Ballistix Sport VLP
Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Socket AM3+ 8 Channel HD Audio mATX Motherboard
HDD - WD AV-GP 500GB 3.5" SATAII 32MB Hard Drive
Case - Sharkoon MA-M1000 micro ATX Case
PSU - Coolermaster Elite Power 500W Fully Wired Efficient Power Supply
Optical drive - Samsung SH-224DB 24X Internal DVD Writer with SATA - Retail Boxed

Don't be afraid to give your opinions as to which parts you think could be better, but most importantly could you tell me if all the components I've chosen work together! I'm pretty confident that they do, but more confirmations would be awesome!

Thanks in advance :)

Will all the parts work? Hard to say until you try them out. Somethimes we get DOA parts.

Will they all work OK together? Yes, everything is compatible.

A few thoughts...

The case is nice looking but has very little room behind the MB tray for cable management. You will have to manage all the cables in the front and try to tie them back so they don't impede air flow. I usually look for a case with more room behind the MB tray.

The top mount PSU is always a problem wiring in a gaming PC. Most opt for a bottom mount PSU.

The PSU is adequate for the system, but the Cooler Master Elite series is very low quality. I'd suggest Corsair, XFX, Antec, Seasonic, just to name a few.

That case has USB 3.0 front ports, but the MB has no USB 3.0 20 pin header to connect them to. You will need a USB3.0 to USB 2.0 adapter to make them operable (at 2.0 speeds).

That MB is good quality, but it is not designed for much in the way of Overclocking if that is of interest to you. It has no heat sinks on the VRMs, and appears to be only 4+1 phase power.

Heat rises. If you push that system for long with heavy gaming etc, what you'll find is that the psu ends up doing double duty. As a psu and an exhaust. This has the net effect of putting hot air into a low quality psu, making it not only more unreliable, but also more unstable on the output, which could not only damage other parts but will definitely affect any OC you have, possibly to the point of throttling, bluescreens, shutdowns, freezes.

Look to the xfx550w or 650w, usually one can be found on sale for less than $50US. Top quality psu built by Seasonic, and actually does what it says on the stats.

A lot of people have been saying that I should change the PSU, so I've decided on a 'Corsair CX 600W Fully Wired 80+ Bronze Power Supply' instead. Would this be any better?

And also, about the case & heat rises, is this because the PSU mount is at the top? I chose one with a PSU mount at the top because I saw on a different thread that top mounted PSU's were the way to go; would you recommend otherwise? If so, could you guys recommend a good value case that has good cable management ideas and bottom mounts?
