Hey all,

I'm awaiting the Broadwell-E launch next year, but in the mean time was considering trying out a Haswell-E refresh (probably the i7 5820k) to replace my current ageing machine, and then swap it out for a Broadwell-E chip.

So my question is, what's the general verdict on the current X99 motherboard offerings? I've read many reviews and seen many benchmarks ran on various boards. I'm kinda after user points of view, historical feedback etc. I've already been steered away from the Gigabyte range by another user on TH, but I've included one anyone as I'm sure someone can offer a counter argument? (I've never owned a Gigabyte board so am impartial).

I'm a bit of an Asus fan, but currently run an MSI board in my 3770k setup.

Opinions are welcome (desired!)

~£335 - Pricey but feature heavy and gamer geared.

~£295 - Another pricey Asus board, but this is one of their flagship range, feature heavy and OC friendly.

~£250 - A considerable drop from the Asus boards, and still packed with features and OC abilities.

~£200 - The cheapest of the four, but still geared towards gamers, overclocking and feature rich.

Thanks!

it's aging yes,but not that much. i'd stick with what you have and wait for the broadwell-e. having said that i have no idea as to what you do most of. my ivy i5 is doing better than fine for what i do, gaming. so i'm happy to wait. the video work etc that i do is not enough to warrant an upgrade just yet. IMO a refresh is not worth it but it is definitely not stated what you mainly do. i'd personally take the asus deluxe if nothing i've said is relevant.

Of what I've seen I look to the Deluxe from Asus, but to me it's too, too early to jump.....if it was DDR3, I'd be ready to go, but DDR4 is expensive and is based on thoughts going back years - the early sets of sticks are DDR4 but they started on DDR4 standards in 2005 and look at the timings, the DRAM industry itself, basically blew off JEDEC with DDR3 (which was only to go up to 1600 initially) and therefore the timings are very slow (and performance relatively speaking, also), DDR4 entry level at the moment is 2133 with a 13 CL where DDR3 at 2133 you see CL9 and 10 as the 'norm'.....I'll be waiting for the DRAM makers to introduce DRAM with tighter timings and better performance, which will prob be awhile

Thanks for feedback. You're right, I should have stated the purpose/general use of the PC. I mainly use my current PC for gaming and video encoding of gaming videos. So a the refresh and broadwell-e appeal to the encoding aspect of my PC use.
