Hi all. This is my first time building a desktop so I need some help. My budget is £1,000 and I'm doing my best to get the best value components for my money, so if you think anything is overkill or if I need to put more ££ into it, let me know. Here's the build I've picked so far. Any input would be massively appreciated.

Mobo: MSI Z97 GUARD PRO: £77.96
CPU: i5 4690k: £172.98
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO: £25.45
PSU: Corsair AX750W Gold: £74.10
Memory: G. Skill Ares 2x4GB 2133MHz: £55.99
Storage 1: Crucial MX100 256GB SSD: £75.90
Storage 2: WD 1TB 3.5": £39.99
GPU: Nvidia GTX 770 (windforce 3x) 2GB: £238.52
Network card: TP-Link TL-WN781ND 150Mbps: £7.99
Optical Drive: Samsung x24 DVD Writer Dual Layer 5.25" SATA Black: £11.75
Case: NZXT Phantom 530: £95.44
Total price: £876.07 + £40 for an OS.

Are all of the components compatible with each other? Have I forgotten anything?
Is the case big enough? Do cases come with fans or do I need to get those too?
Is the NH-D14 a good idea or should I swap it out for Corsair H80 liquid cooling?
Do I need anything else (additional cables etc)? I'll get thermal paste..

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance!

In order to fit the gpu into the case you may have to remove a drive bay or two as the 770 is a little bit bigger than the space allocated in the case. So would recommend changing the case just in case. Another thing is your choice of motherboard - if you want to overclock you will need a Z97 mobo as the one you have chosen will not allow you to overclock. You could even get a cheaper cpu cooler like the cooler master hyper 212 evo as it's very good for the price. Apart from that your build looks very solid.

Thank you both. I've swapped out the NH-D14 for the Cooler Master 212 since it seems to be better and is £40 cheaper.

If I plan to overclock (moderately, not extreme) would the MSI Z97 PC Mate be sufficient? If not, would the Gigabyte GA-Z97M-DS3H work? I'm not entirely sure what case to go for but I guess I'll find one with bigger dimensions than the NZXT 410.

Cooler Master 212 isnt better than NH-D14, it might just be better bang for the buck, but if you are going to be overclocking NH-D14 is the way to go. My 4790k will go with Corsair H100i (liquid cooler) because i plan overclocking and for me it would be important to keep good temperatures since i have bad cooling experiences.

Z97 MoBo's is the minimum you have to go for especially for 4790k. MSI Z97 Gaming 5 is great. Also you can go for some higher like SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2.

If you're not going to overclock past 4.2-4.4 ghz then get the hyper 212 evo, there's no point in getting anything else. And as for the motherboard, the MSI Z97-G55 SLI is highly rated and is a good price.
