I want to know whether it is worth getting DDR3 memory at a higher frequency than 1600Mhz.
i will be playing games on ultra with a 1440p screen (asus swift) and i may do video editing as well.

The amount is more important if you are planning on do video editing. More is better. Otherwise your FPS in games will be only slightly improved by getting faster memory.

The memory you choose depends on what the MB supports and what
the memory controller on various CPUs or APUs can handle.

IN games can gain a few FPS with each step up in DRAM, for the video work, yes faster is better as is more as Spooky mentioned
