I'm currently running an Athlon II X4 620 @ 3GHz, and I was looking to make a slight upgrade. Since my motherboard supports only 95W cpu's, I was thinking about the Phenom II X4 960T which comes with an unlocked multiplier (costs around £54) and the FX6300 (costs arond £86)

Which one should I consider from these two? I'm a casual gamer and do work profesionally with photoshop. Currently I have a Sapphire R9 270, and I need a decent processor to support it.

AsRock 960GC-GS http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/960GC-GS%20FX/ Motherboard is a budget one with a 760G chipset. Definitely planning to upgrade it in the near future.

PSU is FPS Epsilon 80Plus 500W

You can't overclock on that motherboard (no VRM cooling) and if you can't overclock an X4 960t to about 4.0 Ghz (on four cores) there's reason to get it.

So I guess the smartest solution is to get a new MB, a more enthusiast model, then look after a new CPU. Maybe a 990FX model should do it? It fits my budget.

Yes,a 990FX motherboard and the FX-6300.
ASRock 990FX Extreme3 is a good budget 990FX motherboard.
