The card felt stuck and I used a lot of force to remove it. After that I've been getting application errors. Is it possible that I broke the PCI E slot. I play graphic intensive video games and everything works fine. Sometimes when I'm navigating through windows or using VLC the app will crash, even windows explorer. Is it possible that my PCI E slot or graphics card is damaged or does it sound like something else?

You need to give more information for anyone to make an educated guess about what your problem may be. Hardware list (CPU, RAM, Mobo, PSU, GFX card, etc), OS you are using, and a more detailed account of the errors you are experiencing would help.

None of that really says a faulty PCIe slot to me. If you are just experiencing "APPCRASH" w/ various software, it could be faulty memory or perhaps Windows has bugged out and it's time for a clean reload.
First I would test my memory with memtest_x86, it's best if you can let it run overnight for an accurate reading. You can also run Windows scan tool and see if the problem is in Windows. Open the command prompt with admin privileges and type in the following (no parenthesis)

  • "sfc /scannow"
    Press "Enter".
Let it scan, it will find faults in the Windows file structure and repair, if possible.

If you really think it's a PCIe slot, you can always move your card to another slot, make sure it's PCIe_x16 though, and not 8. Otherwise it'll take a performance hit.
Try these first and then see where you stand afterwards.
