Alright, so down to business. Right now I have 3 4k monitors in surround and my two MSI GTX 780 Lightning's can handle most games that don't demand a lot on high quality in 4k surround. (Such as gmod)

Most games like bf4 or dead rising 3 however freeze/start to lag a lot when I turn 4k surround on. I want to know if I get two GTX 980's will that solve most of my problems?

The reason why I am asking for 2 instead of 3 gpus is because my asus sabertooth z87 can only hand two way sli.

More about : 980

Do you have the 3GB GTX 780s? When running at that resolution you are going to need more VRAM, the double VRAM cards were actually meant for this purpose. I would suggest waiting a bit for the 8GB GTX 980s to pop out, they will serve you better than the 4GB versions at that resolution.

Ah, so the problem isn't really with the gpu speed, it's just the memory?
When will the 8GB cards come out? (Estimated time)
Would buying a mobo with 3 PCIe 16x slots and just adding one more 980 work?

You can confirm it if you want. Get MSI afterburner, it shows you GPU usage and GPU Memory usage, if your GPU memory usage starts hitting over 90% you are probably getting limited by your memory, if GPU usage is high but memory usage isn't extremely high then you are being limited by your GPU processing power not its memory.

The bigger cards usually come out pretty quickly, they get sold for a fair amount more but cost very little more to make so there's motiviation to get them out. You should see them around the same time AIB partners start releasing the cards with custom coolers so just a couple weeks.

I don't really have anything technical to add as I agree the video memory is your biggest drawback. But I just wanted to say I'm jealous. 3 x 4K screens. WOW. I thought I was doing well with 3 x normal screens. Nice one buddy:)

I ran the first witcher on the highest settings in 12112x2160 and it is working perfectly without any lag. I also believe that I have a lot of vram left over.
