Hi,

I am looking to build a new small (mAtx) gaming pc. I would like any criticism, advice that the community can give me. This is basically my first build from scratch.

My budget for the build is around $1500, I am willing to wait an extra few months and save if needed.

My current pc is a 2nd generation intel which i built 5 years ago. It was a cheap build and now I want to upgrade to a high end gaming pc.

This is what I came up with:
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/assouldm/saved/yy88TW

  • Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Asus MAXIMUS VII GENE Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
  • Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
  • Storage Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased)
  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
  • BitFenix Prodigy M Midnight MicroATX Mini Tower Case
  • SeaSonic 660W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor
  • BitFenix Spectre Pro LED 148.7 CFM 200mm Fan; BitFenix Spectre Pro LED 86.7 CFM 140mm Fan

  • This is why I chose some of the parts:

Intel i7 - I want to future proof my pc, I want this build to last me for the next 5+ years. I want to underclock the i7 to run around 4ghz 1v instead of the supplier setting of 1.2v, and will overclock later when needed.

Bitfenix ProdigyM - I read many posts that says the itx version is better but I want a mAtx motherboard to be able to sli and to add additional ram at a later stage. It is the only mAtx case I can find where I live that looks decent and can hold all these parts and dual video cards. I want to take out the optical drive and hd cages to improve airflow and increase space. I will use my old pc as a server to hold my optical drives and storage hd.

Cooling - I want to install the 200mm fan at the bottom of the case to push air up, install the h100i fans on the top to push air out, I am not sure about the 140mm fan at the back if I need to push air in or out.

PSU - I read a few threads about selecting a psu, I read that seasonic is great not sure if this is a good one. Any advice here will be great.

Motherboard - Found this one not sure if it is a good one or if there is better out there. I chose it cause of all the features, sound card, ability to create a RAMDisk easily (would like to add certain battlefield files for fast loading), z97 board...

I already own the ssd with windows 7.

The screen, mouse and keyboard ill get at a few months after the pc as it will go over my budget.

Well that's all from my side, all the criticism and advise will be great.

    Thanks.

Hi Nuckles, thanks for the reply.

I checked that memory I cant get it where I live do you have any other suggestions?

Why did you choose that power supply? Wouldn't a fully modular be a better option for a small build for cable maintenance and all?
