one monitor x 2160p resolution = 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels
three monitors x 1080p resolution = 5760x1080 = 6,220,800 pixels

Simple math tells me that a surround 1080p setup uses less pixels, and thus, I will have higher frame rates in games. I am currently using an ancient 1600x900 monitor with my pc setup.

I understand my frame rates will go down when I make either upgrade, but I feel like it is time to make the jump, now that 4k monitors have become consumer friendly-er. It would be funny if I missed an entire generation of monitors though, never in my entire life owning a 1920x1080 monitor, going straight to 4k...

My setup is:
i5-2500k
GTX 590 (have had since 2011, and not looking to upgrade, still plays games awesome)
