I got a hand me down computer, and I want to turn it into gaming computer over the next couple of years. I got a motherboard, cpu, ram, and psu. I wouldn't call any of the components good, but I think they will pull their weight while they wait for an upgrade. (overclocking the cpu).

I want to buy a graphics card that will last me around 3 years with a solid performance (high to ultra settings). Right now I am thinking about gtx 570 1.2gb or R9 270 2gb.

Reason I got gtx 570 1.2gb - less than a $100 on ebay - could eventually pick up 2 and cross fire them when i upgrade my motherboard

R9 270 2.0 gb seems to be slightly better, but also more expensive. If I buy this card, Id be committed to keeping it for longer.

I mostly play games like Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, etc.

Current components:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz
1x Corsair 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2PT
Ultra LSP750 750W

Any suggestions appreciated, Thanks for your time!!

If you want a card that will you last you three years, and you intend to continue playing new games neither of those cards will cut it. I'd consider stepping up to the R9 280 or 280X at the least, and preferably to the GTX 970. It just came out and is worth $600+ but is selling for $300. Many of the graphic intensive games these days require 2gb of VRAM to play on ultra or high settings, so if you only have those two choices then get the R9 270.

You'll also need to upgrade to 8gb of RAM and eventually get a better CPU as well.

Sorry, I should have probably set a budget. Reason I'm leaning towards gtx 570 is primarily because of the price tag; I can find one on ebay for around a 100. So I won't have regrets about ditching it for a better card in less than 3 years if need be, and I can also easily pick up a second card later and run them in SLI (after picking up a better mobo/cpu). As of right now though, I dont want to invest more than $200
